{ Historias de eclipses: Tintín en Perú }

Con vistas puestas al eclipse total de Luna del próximo jueves, ayer contábamos las peripecias de Colón en Jamaica y cómo utilizó sus conocimientos para asustar a los nativos con un eclipse. Este ingenioso truco se ha explotado posteriormente. Sin salir de América y con los indígenas también como protagonistas, tenemos a Tintín y el Templo del Sol.

En esta aventura, Tintín y el capitán Haddock viajan a Perú, en busca de Tornasol, que fue raptado tras ponerse una pulsera de una momia inca. Tintín atraviesa los Andes y se adentra en la selva tras la pista del profesor. Allí descubre un templo habitado por un reducto de la civilización inca. Pero Tintín y Haddock también son apresados y condenados a muerte. ¿Cómo escaparán el valeroso Tintín y sus fieles amigos de esta final fatal?



Tintín encuentra una predicción de eclipse total de Sol en un trozo de periódico y amenaza a los nativos. Al contrario que en los eclipses de Luna, la fase de totalidad de los eclipses de Sol tiene una duración menor, de apenas unos minutos, durante los cuales se hace de noche en pleno día. Es una experiencia asombrosa. Además, la totalidad solo puede verse en una estrecha franja de pocos kilómetros. Los eclipses de Luna pueden durar hora y media y se ven desde toda una cara terrestre. Los incas, claro está, quedan atónitos por el poder de Tintín y lo liberan con la promesa de no revelar su existencia.



Hergé, el creador de Tintín, es conocido por la dedicación y meticulosidad de su trabajo (algo que ya tratamos por aquí en ¡Oh, la luna, la luna!). Pero, sorprendentemente, sus fans más frikis han encontrado algunas pegas al relato del eclipse.

«El relato fue publicándose entre 1943 y 1946. Durante ese periodo no hubo más que un eclipse total de sol sobre Perú, el 25 de enero de 1944. En tal caso el movimiento de la sombra lunar estaría justificado, pero habría una contradicción con las estaciones elegidas por Hergé. Por lo demás, es sorprendente el efecto de pánico provocado por el eclipse: un acontecimiento de esa índole podía tal vez sembrar el terror entre el pueblo llano, pero es poco probable que la astucia de Tintín haya podido tener éxito con los dignatarios incas, en su mayor parte astrónomos conocedores del fenómeno y que precisamente se servían de él para mostrar su poder al pueblo».

La astronomía inca estaba bastante desarrollada y construyeron muchos templos dedicados al Sol. Según un estudio publicado en Nature, a través de la visión de las Pléyades fueron capaces de predecir las épocas de aparición de El Niño. Curiosamente, para los incas, la Luna se ponía enferma durante los eclipses y hacían ruido para que el ladrido de los perros la mejorara.
